Dog-Friendly Activities in Mablethorpe and Skegness

In a previous edition of our blog we discussed the proximity of our dog friendly parks to the Lincolnshire seaside towns of Cleethorpes and Mablethorpe. In this edition, we’re going to travel into the towns of Mablethorpe and Skegness, looking in a little more depth at the dog-friendly activities in each – the places you can go and the things you can do with your four-legged friend. This includes many fantastic walks, or it could mean dog friendly pubs!

Our three holiday parks within easy reach of Mablethorpe and Skegness are Whispering Waters, Windmill Park and Willows Park. From each of these you can access several fantastic walks as well as dog-friendly places to eat and drink.

The best dog walk in Mablethorpe

When you’re looking for dog-friendly things to do in Mablethorpe, the coastline is a particularly beautiful stretch and it’s great for walking on the beach. Beginning in the Queen’s Park area and walking in the direction of Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea will offer a leisurely stroll featuring stunning views. Incidentally, dogs are welcome on the Mablethorpe sand train for tourists (which runs along the beach on a 20-minute round trip from any of six stops).

However, it’s crucial to check for the possibility of seasonal restrictions before heading to the coast. Some beaches ban dogs from being within 200m of the entrance during the spring and summer (between May 1st to September 30th). You will be able to find full details by searching online or, if you are already in Mablethorpe between those dates, signs on the promenade will help you avoid the affected area. You are still allowed to walk your dog along the prom to access the areas to the north and south, which will be quieter.

Dog-friendly places to eat and drink in Mablethorpe

There are also plenty of dog-friendly places around Mablethorpe where you can stop and have some food or something to drink, including various bars or cafes. Three of the best pooch-allowing pubs are:

The Beck

Dogs are not actually allowed in the bar or restaurant of this pub on Quebec Road in Mablethorpe, directly opposite the beach awarded with a blue flag. However, you can take your pooch onto the patio area and there is always fresh water waiting and available to them there. The patio area is covered, so there is cover for those rainy days. The Beck is open Wednesdays to Sundays, serving carvery or offering extensive pizza, curry or take-away menus.

The Louth

On the corner of two shopping streets in the town centre, The Louth is not too far from Mablethorpe’s main beach. There’s a main bar, plus several adjoining areas and a courtyard beer garden to the rear. Your four-legged friend will be welcome in this pub which also features entertainment each week (karaoke and country and western), serves food each day (including carvery on a Sunday) and hosts a variety of traditional pub games (dominoes, darts and pool).

The Dunes

This cheerful bar on the seafront has great views and a family friendly environment including entertainment and food (daytime menu, evening menu and an extensive Sunday carvery). Crucially, it’s also dog-friendly so the family pet will be just as welcome as you are. There is a function room which be hired privately for parties etc, and The Dunes has entertainment on throughout the year (including Saturday nights during the summer).

The best dog walk in Skegness

This Lincolnshire seaside town is a great place to experience the east coast of the UK, and you will find plenty of dog walking available too.

Where are dogs allowed in Skegness?

All of the beaches in Skegness are dog-friendly, other than between the pier and the lifeguard station on Central Beach in the summer months (you can double check for each year’s exact dates on the internet). And the crucial question: Are dogs allowed in Skegness pier? Yes, your dog can go on the pier itself but you must keep it on a lead.

There are other stretches of beach around Skegness which are quiet where your dog will be able to run free, include Anderby Creek and Ingoldmells. In the south of Skegness, the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve is dog friendly (though there is natural wildlife in this area and to avoid disturbing it, dogs must be kept on leads). There is a four mile loop walk at the nature reserve, so your four-legged friend will get a good leg stretch while you enjoy the lovely pastoral views. If you visit the Embassy Theatre in Skegness you will be able to collect one of the printed walking guides that the council has published.
